Tectus fenestratus (window snail)
- Scientific name: Tectus fenestratus
- Origin: Indo-Pacific region (mainly from the waters of the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans)
- Color: Dark brown to greenish with characteristic white, net-like patterns on the shell
- Size: Can reach up to 6 cm in diameter
- Light requirements: Prefers moderate light, but can also thrive in less lit areas
- Water movement: Moderate to strong water flow
- Temperature range: 24–28°C
- pH value: 8.1–8.4
- Salinity: 1.023–1.025 SG
- Diet: Herbivores, feed mainly on algae, especially red algae and diatoms
- Care: Relatively easy to care for, ideal for aquariums for algae control. It requires stable water conditions and a sufficient algae supply.
- Reproduction: Like many snail species, the Tectus fenestratus reproduces by laying eggs, but larval development is difficult in most aquariums
- Special features: The Tectus fenestratus is an excellent algae eater, responsible for controlling algae in aquariums. Its shell has a distinctive, net-like pattern that easily distinguishes it from other snail species. A special ability of this snail is its resistance to many environmental conditions, which is why it can thrive even in less stable aquariums.
